CHP stations involve the use of a prime mover running on gas or other fuel to produce electricity and recovering the waste heat, which is then used to either produce hot water, steam and even chilled water via an absorption chiller.
This technology can be attractive to industrial and commercial clients who have a high heating and/or cooling demand as well as their regular electricity consumption. This includes operations such as abattoirs, breweries, large office buildings, swimming pools, hospitals and many more.
A CHP installation can be up to 80% efficient and also benefits from reduced transmission and distribution losses as power is generated next to the consumer.
